C. Stephen Baum, MD

Pediatrician in Louisville, KY

Dr. Steve Baum and family

I grew up in the South End of Louisville and graduated from Pleasure Ridge Park High School. I graduated from the University of Louisville with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Summa Cum Laude in 1996. I completed my medical studies at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine in 2000. Upon completion of my pediatric residency training at Kosair Children’s Hospital (now Norton Children’s Hospital), I received the Robert C. Spurling Award for the Most Outstanding Resident as voted by the U of L faculty.

After residency, I became a faculty member at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, serving children and families in an out-patient office while training medical students and pediatric residents. I was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics and became a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society. During this time I also served as a hospitalist attending at Kosair Children’s Hospital, newborn nursery attending physician at U of L Hospital, and a Kids Express physician at Suburban Hospital’s (Now Norton Women and Children’s) emergency room.

The skills I acquired during these six years in Louisville uniquely equipped me for the challenges of rural pediatric medicine. In 2010, my family relocated to Campbellsville, KY and I became the medical director for a new U of L outpatient office in Campbellsville. My responsibilities included being director of a fast growing outpatient facility, serving as an attending physician at Taylor Regional Hospital (providing inpatient care for patients from newborns through adolescents), attending all high risk and Cesarean deliveries, and consulting with emergency room physicians as needed. I served on the Taylor County Board of Health and the Board of Directors of the Hope Pregnancy Center.

In 2013 I was given the incredible opportunity to return to Louisville to join the Kaplan Barron Pediatrics. My knowledge of this group is both professional and personal as they provided care for my children while I lived in Louisville. My wife, Tammy and I have four children. We have a son, two daughters and in 2017 lovingly accepted the addition of a foster baby girl. I have gained a new appreciation for foster care families and look forward to assisting my future patient’s families as they navigate the foster care system. My family enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, swimming and camping. We are actively involved in our church and love to travel and experience the beauty of America.

It is always a privilege for myself to partner with families who trust me with the medical care of their children. It is exciting to be part of a team of physicians at Kaplan Barron Pediatrics who have provided such excellent care for children in Louisville for over 70 years.
