Same-Day & Walk-In Sick Visits
We understand that children can become ill quickly and unexpectedly, so we reserve a portion of our daily schedule for sick children. To make an appointment for a sick child, please call our office or use our Patient Portal to send a message requesting an appointment. The more information you can provide us upfront, the better we can serve your child.
We offer walk-in sick visits on weekday mornings and afternoons on a first come, first served basis for established patients 2 months of age and older.
- Walk-in visits are ideal for simple conditions such as runny nose, sore throat, ear pain, sinus drainage, allergies, pink eye, swimmers ear, rash, vomiting/diarrhea, and bug bites.
- Walk-in visits are not intended for chronic (>2 weeks) and wellness issues such as well checks, medication checks, mental health concerns, immunizations, etc.
- If your child is under 2 months of age you must call for an appointment.
Well Child Exams
Well child exams (or check-ups) are a vital part of a child’s health care. Regular wellness visits allow us to detect and address health problems before they become serious, or in some cases prevent them entirely! These visits allow us to examine the child for overall health, growth, and development. We also discuss nutrition, sleep habits, behavior, and age-appropriate topics such as potty training, dental care, and safety issues.
At well child exams, we provide scheduled immunizations, screening tests (hearing, vision, hemoglobin, etc.), and an opportunity for parents to ask questions. The frequency of well child visits is generally determined by your health care provider, but will be based on this schedule recommended by the AAP.
Chronic Condition Management
Some chronic health conditions (such as asthma or allergies) and mental health conditions (such as ADHD, depression, and anxiety) require regular follow-ups and medication checks with your pediatrician at least every 3-6 months based on a child’s individual situation.
Behavioral Issues & Mental Health Care
The behavioral health specialists at Kaplan Barron Pediatrics provide expert testing and treatments for common behavior and mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, Tourette Syndrome, and more.
Adolescent Care
Adolescence is an important transition from childhood to adulthood. During these years, patients will be offered and encouraged to have a portion of the visit alone with their provider. We try to pay special attention to the personal needs, confidentiality and privacy of our adolescent patients. During these visits, we will discuss issues such as alcohol, smoking, substance use and sexual activity. Patients may schedule appointments through their late teens and college years.
Breastfeeding Support
Our physicians and lactation consultants and counselors will work with you to address any breastfeeding concerns. We are experienced and uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat mothers and their babies for a variety of nursing challenges, such as milk supply, engorgement and latching issues.
